Theory/Musicianship Lessons

One-to-one and small-group classes (2-4 students) are available in Theory or Musicianship. Students interested in Composition, Viva Voce, or Musicology (e.g. for HSC Music 1, 2 or Extension) should enrol in one-to-one classes.

AMEB Pre-Requisites

From Grade 6 onwards, students sitting AMEB performance exams need to have attained a specified level in Theory or Musicianship for them to qualify for their certificate or diploma.

These pre-requisites are:

Grade 6 Practical: a pass in Grade 2 Theory or Musicianship.

Grade 7 Practical: a pass in Grade 3 Theory or Musicianship.

Grade 8 Practical and the Certificate of Performance: a pass in Grade 4 Theory or Musicianship.

AMusA Practical: a pass in Grade 5 Theory or Musicianship.

LMusA Diploma: a pass in Grade 6 Theory or Musicianship.

What to Bring to Class

Please buy the book How To Blitz Musicianship by Samantha Coates in your child’s grade. Please also bring sharp pencils, an eraser, and a manuscript pad. Practice exam papers and other resources will be provided.

Cost

Tuition fees are based on recommendations of the Music Teacher’s Association of NSW. Fees reduce as class size increases. I prefer a class size of 3 to 4 students maximum as this allows me to give students more personal attention as needed.

Grades 1 - 3: 9 x 30-minute weekly classes per term

2 children per class - $225.00 per child

3 children per class - $195.00 per child

4 children per class - $150.00 per child

Grades 4 - 6: 9 x 45-minute weekly classes per term

2 children per class - $337.50 per child

3 children per class - $290.00 per child

4 children per class - $240.00 per child

Missed lessons will not be caught up or refunded. However, if your child has missed a class, I am happy to mark homework between lessons. Every effort will be made to help them catch up at the next lesson.
